This is my family’s property. The property was purchased in 1979 by my father and mother but our family didn’t move to WV permanently until a very short time before this photo was taken. The mobile home was initially used for a vacation/hunting cabin but when we moved it was “fixed up” to be our new home. I remember walking into it for the first time very vividly. My father would eventually start to build a house in the style of a modular, one half at a time so my siblings and I could have our own bedrooms. He finished ours before he did his own and did a lot of it with limited help and a bulky cast on his foot and ankle due to crushing his ankle in a trike accident. With his ankle not healing leading to an amputation from below the knee and his health declining through the years he was unable to finish it so it remained the original mobile home with the half of the house he built attached. Unfortunately in 2001 it caught fire and most of it was lost. Thankfully my wife and I were the only ones home and got out safely. My father was heartbroken when he found out. As much hardship as it brought him he loved this place. It was home. He passed in 2007 and it’s very important to my siblings and I that we keep it in the family and make sure our children know what it means to us. We learned a lot of valuable lessons about life growing up here even if times were tough more times than not. We never went without though and had a good childhood here for the most part. I’m very grateful for the pilot and photographer who captured this as we have very few pictures of it. Once I saw it I even now can recall a gentleman walking down our driveway and approaching my father to see if he would be interested in purchasing a copy. I remember my father declining and kind of laughing it off like “Why would I want a picture of my old trailer in the middle of the woods?”
