Dennis D Cato

Intersection of what is now Hwy 10 and Hwy J in Cato. The road signs visible toward the bottom middle of the photo indicate that at the time, Hwy J north of 10 was called County Hwy A and south of J was called State Hwy 148. The large building in the upper middle of the photo would have been at the Northeast corner of the intersection. There is an "Old Style" sign on the side of the building that also says "Reitmeyer's". The house located on the property with the rounded stone wall near the right edge of the photo can be seen in photo 18 of roll 57.

George and Betty Reitmeyer's bar. I was a friend of the family. They served a wonderful Friday fish fry. George also did paintings. He authored a book on the history of Cato. My husband's grandparents lived upstairs in the apartment for many years. The train used to go through town. On the northwest corner was the post office and general store owned by Ray and Ollie Hinker. When Hwy 10 was widened, it was all torn down.
