This is Philadelphia Christian Church on S Co Rd 700 E at E Co Rd 500 S in Perry Township. An addition built as I recall in the 1960's, projects from the right (south) side of the building. Note its lighter shade of brick. A different angle of view of the site can be found in Roll 526-ADE image #4.

This farm is owned by Donald Harris on the north side of E Co Rd 600 S, about a 1/4 east of S Co Rd 875 E. At one time however, my great grandparents lived here, George and Minnie Bennett Conwell. They were both born in 1873 and both died in 1955. They are buried not far away in Union Cemetery just south of Windsor on the Losantville Pike. They were the parents of my grandma Sylvia Johnson. Unfortunately this is not a great photo of the farm. The structure at the left edge of the photo is the 2 story frame farmhouse. The structure in the center of the photo is a barn, probably quite old. Note the cupola showing between the trees. The barn at the right edge of the property is a more modern barn, probably a pole barn. Interestingly, the Delaware/Randolph County line splits the property at a point between the house and the center barn. One of the places the Conwells lived prior to here can be found in Roll 526-ADE image #6. I haven't studied Donald's family but he is one of a number of Harris family members who live in Perry Township.

This is the Max Halstead farm on the west side of the Losantville Pike one mile north of highway 36 at Losantville. His mother Minnie was a Johnson whose grandfather was Jonas. Jonas was my great great grandfather. Jonas' father was Reuben of North Carolina who settled virgin land 1/2 mile north of Maxâs but on the east side of the road, a farm now owned by Barney Johnson (not a relative!). There were many Johnson farmers, through the years (as well as Halsteads I suspect) and many continued to live close by. Numerous Johnsons and Halsteads are buried at Riverside Cemetery located 1 mile north on W Co Rd 800 S. It is where Max, Minnie (and husband Nelson, Max's father), Jonas and Reuben are all buried. Minnie's father Thomas (and wife Elizabeth, Max's grandmother) are buried there as well. For a photo of Max's farm from 1971 as well as further commentary, go to Roll 47-MRA-33. My grandpa Haskell Halstead's farm was located on the pike just south of Max's. Undoubtedly they are related but I have not researched it. He too is buried at Riverside. For 2 images of his farm see image #8 of this roll as well as roll 47-MRA image 36.

In 1971, this was the farm of Max Halstead. It was located at the northwest corner of the intersection of the Losantville Pike (S Co Rd 1100 W) and W Co Rd 900 S, just one mile north of highway 36. No doubt he was related to my grandpa Haskell Halstead but I have not checked into this. Haskell's farm was less than a mile south on the west side of the pike. A photo of his farm can be found in this roll at #36. The silo and barn roof across the road from Max belonged to Sandy Routh. Today however, that site is completely cleared of any evidence of buildings or structures. Max passed in 2011. In addition to farming, he delivered bulk fuel to farms. His delivery truck is the one on the left. The style of letters and logo look like those used by the Standard Oil Co. Note how the garage opening is cut. I assume this was done in order to fit the shape of the truck. Note also his boys' basketball hoop in front of the truck. The movie Hoosiers was filmed only 25 miles from here for good reason! A later photo of the farm can be found at Roll 111-WRA image #4. Additional commentary can be found there.

Another photo of this farm appears in Roll 47-MRA image #36 taken in 1971. Despite a 22 year difference, the two are remarkably similar.

Additional research indicates that Stoney Creek School was also part of the consolidation effort that resulted in the Monroe Central building of 1963. For an excellent account of the Monroe Central school district which at the time of formation in 1956 also included Green School, visit the district's website.
