This is Warren S. and Imogene (Martin) Norton's farm Their barn was further down the drive through Hurricane Creek and up a hill where originally built their home. They never lived in the original home - someone burnt it down before they moved in.
That is very sad to hear they never got to move into the home they built. There are so many interesting stories tied to these photos. Do the Norton's still own this farm today? Do you know if it is still an active farm? If you know the current address I would love to geotag this photo with the correct location.
The Nortons sold off the back acreage after Warren died (my grandfather). He died in 1972 but it was probably in the 80's that the land was sold. The house stayed in the family until Imogene died in 2005. I remember when Grandma was around 75 and she walked with me all the way back to the area where the barn once was even though she no longer owned it. My daughter stood on top of the hill back there and said: "some day we should reclaim Norton mountain!" Grandma showed me an old shack that was once a lean-to they used to live in while the original home was being built. The lean-to was my uncle Allen's bedroom and was up against a camper of sorts. we found an old small horseshoe there and I still have it.
Last time, in 2016, I was there to check out the old cemetery on the property, no one was living in the home. The beautiful tiny cemetery was in great disrepair. Sad, really. No one ever cared for it like my granddad and he did it even though the county told him to leave it alone.
