Texaco gas station with railroad depot

View looks NE into Elkhart, Illinois. That is the Illinois Central Gulf (ex-Gulf, Mobile & Ohio/Chicago & Alton — now Union Pacific and AMTRAK) Chicago to St. Louis mainline where the depot is (was). U.S. Route 66 is the 4-lane highway in the foreground. The Texaco station, whose building still stands, is in the SE corner of the intersection of U.S. 66 and what is now Governor Oglesby Street.

I grew up 4 blocks south of the station (1962/1978)
Fenton Cranor and Kelly Walsh were partners.
Gas was a lot cheaper then😉. Last visted Nov.2021
