McHenry Outdoor Theatre
Corner of Lincoln and Chapel Hill Rd
The Skyline Drive-In Outdoor Theatre located at 1510 N. Chapel Hill Rd. at the corner of Lincoln Rd. was opened on July 20, 1951 showing the movie "Rogues of Sherwood Forest" with John Derek. The property was owned by Roy J. Miller (McHenry Enterprises, Inc.). The screen size was 52 X 70 ft. In 1956, the screen size was expanded to 104 ft wide with 2 movies showing nightly. In 1963, Roy sold the theatre to Stan Kohlberg of Chicago. In 1977, Rhyan Holding LLC purchased the theatre and changed the name to McHenry Outdoor Theatre. July 1, 2006, Scott Dehn and Cindy Kottke became General Managers of the theatre. Scott took over the operations in January 2012 and formed a new company, Golden Age Cinemas. A new digital projector was installed in May 2014, replacing the 35mm film projectors. In February 2020, Scott purchased the theatre property from Rhyan Holdings LLC just before the pandemic began closing business down. He was successful in reopening the outdoor theatre in early summer and in December 2020 he purchased 9 acres adjoining the McHenry Outdoor Theatre property with potential plans to add two more screens.
