In the 1960's while I was living in the area, Sherman Mitchell operated this Amoco "filling station" on the south side of highway 35, several miles southeast of Muncie. It was located next door to the Mt Pleasant United Brethern Church where my uncle Robert/Bob and aunt Mary Johnson attended. Typical of the era, Sherm sold gas, repaired cars and may have delivered fuel in bulk to farms and to homes for heating. I think he also had a tow truck for customers who broke down on the road. With the popularity of such things as AAA, Midas Muffler and partnerships with convenient stores and fast food, the auto fuel/repair business was radically changed.
