This is the McCrea Homestead along the Aroostook River in Ft. Fairfield. It has bee in the McCrea family for 5 generations and is our current home.

Phil and his father, Bruce McCrea cut every stick of wood that went into building this house. They started cutting wood in 1947, took the wood to Canada to be milled, brought it back and stacked it to let it cure. Fred Clark helped them chalk out the different rooms on the basement floor. They would chalk out a room, and then build it. The house was ready to move in to in1949. This was their first in-door plumbing. Harold and Raymond were married. Dallas, Tom, Phil, Ronnie, and Margie lived in the new home.

I had one of the best summers of my life at that farm with the Dallas McCrea clan, 1979

Lots of changes, no more barn, sheds, coops or sun porch. It is beautifully sided now after my cousin John's hard work. I have so many wonderful memories from when Grammy Ruby & Grampy Bruce lived there to Aunt Janet & Uncle Dallas! Thank goodness Kim & Matt own it now & have kept it up. Stephanie McCrea Clarke

I used to babysit for Dallas and Janet's kids in the late 50's. I remember that Janet had some great reading material so the time went quickly.

I love hearing about all of these memories and the history of our house. My grandmother was a voracious reader and I still have some of her books, Mike. Thank you for sharing your memories.
