This was originally my grandfather's farm, Chester Giberson. My brother, Alfred, was very familiar with the history of the place. As I recall, Grampy bought the farm at the turn of the century (late 1800s). He was from Aroostook Junction. He built onto the original house (far left of the picture), which was the narrower left side. I recall my brother telling me it was the first house in the area to have running water and electricity. The extended side on the right had a small house at the end. Grampy built the house across the road for my Uncle Fred but there was some kind of a falling out and it was never finished. I remember picking crews living there. The house on the far right of the picture was where the hired man and his family lived. I only lived there for a few short years but can see it all so clearly in my mind's eye. The Gibersons lost the farm in the 1950s and it was bought by the Thibeaus who continued to renovate and upgrade this lovely homestead. A family from the base purchased the farm from the Thibeaus. I love to take a drive up the Strickland Road every time I'm home. My heart will always be in the County. Marilla Giberson Cushman

Need to make a correction to my original post. It was Alice and Glenn Barnes who bought the Giberson farm not the Thibeaus. The family that lived in the house on the far right was Wallace and Laura Higgins and their kids Pearl and Linda. I don't think Jimmy was born then. They were like family to us. Great memories. This photo is of the Giberson homestead on the Strickland Road in Fort Fairfield, originally owned by my great grandparents, Chester and Alice Giberson. Oh, how this photo brings back so many fond memories of my chIldhood. My parents, Albert and Hazel Giberson, lived in the small living quarters attached to the main house when I was born. I don’t know how long we lived in that part of the house; but at some point, my family moved into the main home. Even though I was very young, I remember living there with my sister, Cathy. I remember how beautiful the home was...the grand staircase, the beautiful woodwork and the dining room.

The homestead was bought by Glen and Alice Barnes in the late 1950’s. My family then moved into the larger home in the far right of the photo. My Dad worked for Glen Barnes for many years. Glen gave my parents a plot of land on the homestead and my Dad built a home there (photo #9). We moved into our new home in 1959.
My brother. Aaron and his family, currently live in this home.

Gerald and Glenda Barnes, Glen’s son and daughter-in-law, moved into the home across the road from the main house. They did many renovations and turned this structure into a beautiful home where they raised their three children, Steven, Tammy and Kate. I babysat their three children many times during my teenage years.

I am very blessed to have spent my childhood on the Giberson homestead...an absolutely beautiful farm where the Fraser kids, my sister and I climbed trees, rode our bikes on the field roads and snowmobiled across the wide open spaces. Now when I visit my brother and drive past my great grandparents old homestead, memories of living on Strickland Road come to mind and I appreciate my many blessings of being part of the third generation of the Giberson family.
