Dunntown Rd, Wade..........former Sterling Haynes homestead

most buildings gone............just house left

Hi, my name is Robin Haynes and this is my grandparents home farm. Orville and Ola Haynes. They raised their two children here. Sterling (my dad) and Bonnie Haynes.
Located about 4 miles from Washburn, ME on the New Dunntown Road, Wade ME. The Dunn family owned and grew up in the house before my grandparents bought it. About 1935 Orville and Ola Haynes purchased the property. The barn was raised on August 13, 1937. In the early 1950's the addition of the porch, living room and bedroom were added to the house. The machine shed out back was rebuilt and still stands today. The barn, hen house and garage were lost in a fire in 1989. Orville and Ola also purchased the property across the road. The small garage was were Orville stored the John Deere bulldozer and used for woodworking. We raised and showed registered Brown Swiss cattle. Basically had an "ole McDonald farm of ducks, pigs, sheep, dogs, cats, rabbits, pony and other pets in need of a home.Sterling and Sandra Haynes moved in the house in 1991. Sterling built a metal quonset shop where the old garage had been which still stands. Sterling passed away in August 2011. The family legacy lives on because my son, Steven Holmes, currenly lives on the home farm.

My name is Virginia White and i am too a granddaughter to the family that lived her orville and ola Haynes. I have some of the best memories from the farm. My sister robin, cousin paula and myself used to play in the barn all the time especially in the grain bin even though our moms and grammy would get mad at us. Like my sister said we raised many animals here and are very blessed to still have this in our family!!
