Coffins Store, Portage Lake Maine! A true Portage Lake Landmark!

A portage landmark for sure. Used to ride to here on my horse with my sister and childhood friends from buffalo to get our favorite emergency meal. Vienna sausage, Jaxs cheese twists and a bottle of coke.

My Dad, Terrence P Coffin Sr., had purchased the store from his father, Nathaniel W Coffin in the early 1960's. It was a great place to grow up and a great business for the community and area. The post office building that is on that piece of land was built in later years. The large barn and burning incinerator are gone now. Great photo.

Stopped at this store many times in the past. Glad to see that a young couple has bought it recently and already made some great improvements. Means it will be around for many years to come.

During the winter months we used to walk down the hill and wait for the bus at Coffin's Store. We did this so that Bounce (Condon) wouldn't have to stop his bus on the hill when the roads were slippery.
