The former Econo Lodge/Rodeway Inn/Coldwater Inn on Chicago Road (US-12) west of Coldwater. The motel was lost to a fire in 2015. The Texaco has been gone for a long time.
The road at the top of the picture, behind the motel, headed west and came out on River Road. Did US-12 used to pass -behind- the motel?
The motel was at one time called the Chester Motel. There was a restaurant in the building just west of the gas station. The restaurant has been gone for many years. Based on my recollection from the mid 1950's on, I do not remember US-12 going behind the gas station.
To answer the 2016 question about the road behind the motel - yes it did exist. From looking at the high altitude aerials on Historic Aerials it appears it was the main road, bypassing the corner of River Rd and W Chicago St. It connected to River Rd just south of present day Cedar Haven Dr. If you zoom in on the satellite view in the corner you can still make it out as it connects to that small farmers path. It was gone by the 1980s.
