Current in operation as National Block on North Frontage Road north of Ford Road overpass. (2020)

Four childhood friends (and WWII veterans) returned home from the war and decided to start a concrete construction block company. In 1949, they purchased nine acres on the north side of Ford Road west of Hix and construction began shortly there after. In 1952, National Block and National Ready Mix Inc. opened. They are still going strong -- the company has passed through three generations and has served the metro-Detroit area for more than 70 years.

The original, unique mid-century front office building at the street still remains although it is now painted a darker color. Its street address has remained the same even though the Ford Road overpass was built in the early 1980's (seen here) and the business now technically sits on the service drive (Frontage Road).
