Charles Hanson farm site

This was one of the earliest homesteads on the west side of Artichoke Lake. An 1870 map shows an O. Oleson homestead in this site, but the homestead patent for this farm was issued to Ole Arneson shortly after that. It was apparently then owned by Ole Rodengen, who sold it to Rev. Hans H. & Ovedia Gaard in 1878. Hans Gaard's sons took the name Hanson, and several of them settled in Section 2. By 1899, this homestead was passed down to Charles Hanson, the youngest of the Gaard sons. Mrs. Hulda Hanson still owned this farm in 1931, but her sons William & Arthur farmed it. William and his wife Clara continued to farm here until at least 1966. In 1976, Clara still owned the farm but rented it to her son Charles, who now owns the farm and lived there for many years.
