Davis Sandwiches

Ray Hastings

Bell Restaurant, Davis Restaurant, Joe Brooks Store, Garners Store, and Tommy Garners Service Station

The building in the center was my Granddaddy's (Floyd Davis) cafe. Interesting note from my Mom...The phone booth is gone! I thought it was still there in 1965. I can see the movie posters on the storage building for the drive-in at Yadkinville and the Reeves theater in Elkin. Looks like gas price was 29.9, how crazy is that? The lowest I remember it being was 16.9 during the gas wars.
The building on the right was Stella Garner's store. She sold Gulf gas. Tommy sold Shell, Joe Brooks on the upper right sold Amoco and my dad sold Esso. The building on the upper left is Bell Restaurant. The long building behind Davis Cafe is the Bell Motor Court.
When I was a little girl(5 yrs old ) my dad ran the motor court for a while.
The cafe was hard work for my dad and mom but it was a good place for my brothers and sister and myself to grow up and learn how to work along side of our parents. Dad and mom ran the cafe until 1972.

I sure do. My grandparents lived across t street from you. Maben & Ila Campbell. I couldn’t pronounce Spencer so I called you pen-ee in those days
