The Suliat farm market on Rt 14 at present day Cunningham Rd (It would be to the right). The Walmart was built here around 2000. The market is now a Dunkin' Donuts.
NO that is the Suliot (with an O) farm purchased in 1870/71 by Theodore E. Suliot (My G.G.G.Gfather) & Sons. Some of the family moved to a farm house they built on Butcher Road (Old Salem-Leetonia Road). The property was one big farm until 1880 when they split the property between "The Stone house" Owned by James Suliot & the "New Brick" house owned by Eugene T. Suliot (my Great Great GFather) The part of the property with the Stone House was sold to Walmart about 1994. The house was deconstructed & some of the original stone slabs still exist (not telling you where. :-) ) The property containing the "New Brick house" was sold 1977 to another owner & still exists including its outbuildings & bridge barn. If you have more of these please let me know. :-)
By the way the Farm Market was there in 1969. :-)
Hi Victoria, I was just referring to Cunningham Rd as not being there in 1969 but it was - just hard to make out on the early aerial views. The market building is there in 1956. The 1950 aerial shows what might be a smaller roadside stand. If you sign up as a member (free) you have access to the older satellite views on the map in the corner. You can find lots of interesting things on the older aerials.
Hiya! Done & TY!! I cannot find any pics of the Butcher Road Brick house. *sigh* BUT can give ya some more history of the area... Like that Butcher Road was only paved up to a certain point for a LONG time because one of the prominent business owners in the area lived on it & wanted HIS road paved... after his home it became once more a rough gravel track. :-)
