This is the old John J. Kurtz home on Old Winchester Rd. in Whetstone Twp. It was built by his parents some time between 1880 and 1900 and was demolished after sustaining severe damage in a fire in the fall of 2009. My father was born in that house and grew up there. I remember it well.
The home of my paternal grandparents (built to replace an earlier two story log home – gone by the time of this photo) some time around the turn of the century and in which my father was born in 1903. Sadly, after being severely damaged by fire in late 2008, the house had to be demolished. My father helped graft some of those Rambo apple trees seen to the right of the house. The trees are now also gone as are all of the outbuildings and the barn across the road (a corner of which is seen at lower left in the photo). Only the much newer pole barn (the roof of which is at lower right) remains standing and is still in use today.
