Artanna! Used to be a small motel just across 62.

Larry's Market on the sign.

Reid and Macel Miller's general store in Artanna, Ohio years ago, maybe in the early 1970s.

I remember lots of family and church picnics at the park located behind the gas station. It was a treat for us kids to walk to the store for a bottle of “pop” or an ice cream bar.

I also recall having church picnics in that state park, however my memory runs somewhat dry as to the gas station. I wonder though if anyone else recalls the "rumor"....(I think), that this lady was given some type a role in a John Wayne movie? Something about some Hollywood exec stopping at the motel and offered her some role...I remember hearing that story way back in the 50's, but never heard if it had any validity.

This filling station was owned by Art and Anna Wolfe before the Millers. their two names were combined to make the name Artanna. They also had cabins for travelers to stay in. There is not much left but the crumbling store and the cabins are gone.It was said when Anna was young she had the looks of a movie star.

My grandpa bought the store in the mid to late sixties for my uncle to run. My cousin is trying to get additional information from my uncle.

Looking at the high altitude aerials I can see the cabins. They were just north of the store towards the next intersection, across Rt 62 to the west. 4 or 5 cabins. One is still there along with a larger building that is now a garage.

OK, I found a photo that shows the larger building from the cabins, here it is: https://vintageaerial.com/photos/ohio...

And here is a better shot, these two buildings are still there today: https://vintageaerial.com/photos/ohio...

Here they are in 1980: https://vintageaerial.com/photos/ohio...

I found a newspaper reference to the Wolfes and their business in Artanna in 1948. The cabins were the Artanna Motel (no surprise!) In 1957 Art found a purse a lodger had left behind with $15,000 in it. He called the Highway Patrol and told them the couple was headed to Canton and provided a description. The Patrol soon located the woman, who was in hysterics over losing the money and they drove back and reclaimed it. Well done, Art Wolfe!

My Grandpa bought the property in the late 60's, my uncle ran the store from 69 to 74, then closed it. Tammy Troy is my cousin, Larry (Bud) Rine is my uncle

I love seeing this! I had the pleasure of taking care of Anna in 2012, a lovely woman. 2 years after meeting Anna my husband and I bought a place just a little ways from artanna,on hopewell and I think of miss Anna daily as I drive through. I also have some cool artifacts from when the store and cabins were in their prime. They were given to me by older family friends from johnstown. I love having a little piece of this history!

In response to Anna looking like a movie store, she absolutely did! When I took care of her and saw her photos from through out the years, she was absolutely stunning! :)

I remember many picnics in the park at Artanna & visiting the corner store. I played percussion in the Bladensburg school band I with Art & Anna’s son Jack. I also recall watching the western Anna was in @ the Shrine Movie theatre in Mt Vernon. Anna was stunning, does anyone remember the title of the movie??
