The Lawrence E Hardy farm on the north side of Griggs Rd, east of Rt 511 but west of the RR tracks, Rochester. The house, barn and two out buildings by the pond are still there, but no more L. E. Hardy on the roof. No more pond for that matter.
Mrs Hardy was the former Hazel Bradford and the 102 acre farm had been in the family since 1900. The barn was built by Henry Bradford in 1924 and re-roofed in 1956, probably when the L.E. Hardy was added.
Featured in the Wellington Enterprise as a "Mystery Farm" in the 1950s. This series of articles had a brief history and an aerial photo of each farm. Thanks to Cindy Kurpely of the Rochester Historical Society for providing the article. Search the Lorain County main page for "mystery" to see other farms featured.
