Forest Williams farm on the west side of Rt 58 just south of Webster Rd, Pittsfield. The 116 acre farm was unofficially known as the Black River Farm as the west branch runs through it. That very interesting house was built in the 1830s by Squire Bill Howk and is still there today. Beams and siding are cut from local black oak, ash and black walnut. Howk settled here in the 1820s. From 1852 to 1875 the Gates family owned it and Williams' father purchased the farm in 1875.
Aside from the house the farm looks totally different today with many new barns and a half dozen huge grain bins.
