Rt 18, west of West Rd, Wellington.
The 130 acre farm of Merlin Heidenreich. In 1956 Mr and Mrs Peter Jenks lived on the farm. The pole barn was the home of 60 Holstein cattle. They were fed from grains raised on the farm which had been enriched by many tons of muck removed from the swampy areas along this stretch of Rt 18. In the 1950s the road had to be closed while a huge area of muck was removed and filled to keep the highway from sinking. In i954 Heidenreich was also listed as the owner of the Hillcrest Motel on the land adjoining the west side of the farm (see photo 10). At that time the motel was a single small building.
Featured as Mystery Farm number 43 by the Wellington Enterprise on September 27, 1956. Search the Lorain County home page for "mystery" to see other farms.
