Charles Behnke's Elm Grove farm named in 1896. North side of Rt 18 just west of Whitehead Rd, Penfield. The "Elm Grove" is no longer there.
By 1956 this was owned by Mr and Mrs Leslie Preston. Behnke was Mrs Preston's father and he had purchased this farm from Leon Whitbeck in 1897. The house on this 101 acre farm was built in 1905 and the barn added in 1910. Most of the grain raised on this farm was used by the Preston's herd of cattle on their Hawley Rd farm.
Featured as Mystery Farm number 45 by the Wellington Enterprise on October 11, 1956. Search the Lorain County home page for "mystery" to see other farms.
