Twining farm Griggs rd
Lewis Twining moved onto this farm in 1942, renting it from the late George Howk. In 1944 his three sons, Russell, Ronald and Richard purchased the farm. 170 acres of the 192 acre farm were planted in corn, oats and hay. In 1956 they had a herd of over 100 Holsteins with 56 being milked.
Located on the north side of Griggs Rd just west of Clark Rd. The 1956 photo in the Enterprise looks much different. An old barn was there in place of the one shown here. In late June, 1956, that barn caught fire. The family released the dairy herd from the barn and they scattered to the far corners of the farm. They were driven on foot, guided by farm hands on horseback to another barn on the Clark Rd portion of the farm. The barn seen here replaced the barn that burned.
Featured as Mystery Farm number 19 by the Wellington Enterprise on April 12, 1956. Search the Lorain County home page for "mystery" to see other farms.
