The Dean McClellan farm on the south side of Rt 18 just east of Rt 511, Brighton. One of the earliest farms in Brighton. In the early days of Brighton the cemetery was located just east of the house. Dean and his father, who lived directly across the road, farmed their 165 acres together. For some time they raised dairy cows but by 1956 were raising hogs, sheep and 600 chickens. Springs on Dean's farm supplied water for the livestock.
The McClellans purchased the farm from Wallace (John) Gott in 1928. Dean was a hobby woodcarver and used orange, cherry, sassafras, box elder, California myrtle, Osage orange and narra from the Philippines to carve.
Featured as Mystery Farm number 49 by the Wellington Enterprise on November 8, 1956. Search the Lorain County home page for "mystery" to see other farms.
