Photo 5-HAB-17

This was home to my great-grandparents, Elva and Truman Huckstep (Nanny and Pop-pop). I spent a lot of time in that house growing up and would have been about 2 when this shot was taken. Pop-pop kept honey bees and had a set-up to extract and jar the honey in the basement. He also had a big garden to the right of the driveway that is out of frame. I remember him showing me how to stick my hand down in the dirt to check the beets to see if they were the right size before we pulled them up. Then going in the kitchen with Nanny to get them all washed up and canned and coming away with beet stained hands. There are so many family memories made in that house. They have both passed away; Pop-pop in 2007 and Nanny in 2010. They were both able to pass away peacefully in that house surrounded by the love of their family. The house is still there but has had some remodeling done so it looks a little different now.
