The Jager farm, SW of Platville. On the south side of the road, the oval cement corn crib (built in the 1950s) and the tall maple tree in left foreground remain, but the other buildings are long gone. On the north side, the house and garage remain. Chicago Rd was originally called the High Plains Trail, and was one of the stage routes from Chicago to Ottawa. The original part of the house (on the left/ west) was built in the 1840s by stage driver William Newkirk, and was bought around 1870 by Nels Jager. Still owned by the same family in 2016.
