H.E. Buch & Sons, Inc., a plumbing and heating contractor were located at 3012 W Rte. 120 (far left). Mr. Much, around 1915, started a display room for heating and plumbing stock on Elm Street. In 1928 he moved his business from Green St. to Riverside Dr., where had built a new building where he also sold new home appliances. In 1953, the business was moved to the above location. In January 1969, The Bath Shop (a division of H. E. Buch & Son, Inc.) occupied the building. In October 1981, the business name was changed to Buch Bros. Plumbing and Heating (a division of Creative Kitchens and Baths, Inc.). The business operated here through 1988. In April 1989, Tony's Schwinn Cycling and Fitness were located here for several years. There are currently two suites in the building which have house several businesses over the years. Cureently, Heavenly Cloudz occupies one of the suites.
Adams Bros. Radiator Service (center 2-story building) was located at 3006 W. Rte. 120. About 1928, they originated as Adams Bros., Props and were located at West Side Garage. In 1956, the business was known as Adams Bros. Repair Service and located at Stilling's Phillips "66" Service Station at 300 Elm St. They started operation at the above location in September 1961. The business name was changed to Adams Bros. Radiator & Supply. As of 1995, Richard and Rita Adams owned 3004-3008 W Rt. 120. At one time McHenry Auto Body was here and currently its the location of Gerber Collision & Glass - McHenry.
Gem Cleaners, located at 3004 W. Rte. 120 (next to the V.F.W. Post 4600 entrance) was established here in 1970 until 1977. Originally, the Adams Bros. Repair Service were located here in 1961. Between 1979 and 1986, Roman's Carpet Center was occupied the building and then Carpet World, Inc. (1988-1993). McHenry Tire and Brake located here in 2003 and currently Enterprise Rent-A-Car occupies the building.
It is believed that the properties were the location of the Peterson Boat and Motor Co. owned by Eric Peterson (1878-1957). Eric moved his family from Chicago to Johnsburg in 1911, began work as a carpenter and established the boat company moving it to this location in 1925. Eric's son, Earl Peterson (1908-1967), took over the boat company. Earl and his mother, Pearl "Kitty" (Green) Peterson (1879-1968) lived here, also.
Behind the buildings is one of the V.F.W. baseball fields.
