This is the Cyr Homestead farm in Van Buren Maine. This was my grandfather's farm, Wilfred V. Cyr, my fathers, Leo James Cyr, after that, both raised potatoes and cattle. I raised some cattle on a portion of this farm until 2001. In 1982 the barn collapsed after a heavy wet snowy winter. The Potato storage barn was demolished in 2012 after it collapsed. The house still stands today and is occupied by my aunt Janet Cyr. My father also still lives in a house next door which was also part of this homestead. I purchased the lower part of the farm in 2001 from my father. I will always call this my home where many fond memories were made.

There is an original copy of this photo in color that hung in my grandparents house for many years (Wilfred & Rose Cyr). The house still stands and is occupied by my aunt Janet Cyr. All the other buildings are no longer existent, however, I have great memories of living and working on this farm. My father, Leo James Cyr, son of Wilfred Cyr, lived next door in another house which used to be an old school house. I miss those carefree days of walking into the barn which was full of cattle back in the 1960's. I also kept my pony, and later a horse on that farm. Horseback riding was a great pass time of mine while growing up. We spent all of our summers outdoors helping in the garden, picking rocks in the potato fields, picking potatoes by hand, before all the modern harvesters came about, picking hay bales off the hay fields, and harvesting firewood from the forested areas. Once upon a time, the Cyr homestead consisted of hundreds of acres, and now has dwindled down to just a few acres. Sad to see alot of the old farms and barns as well as farming in general disappearing in the area. We have lost a great way of life the way it was back then. All there are left are great memories.

That is the house I think, I was last there about 65 to 70 years ago and played with Imelda her sister Mary Jane and a smaller brother James. I would love to have contact with Imelda if she is still living.
