Bishop house on the Calais Road, Hodgdon, Maine. In 1956 my parents bought this house which was nothing more than a burnt-out shell with a barn and carriage house. My father rebuilt the house from its bones with the barn. Then in 1964 he raised the house and took out the stone foundation and replaced it with cement block foundation with the help of family and friends (a real barn raising event). Some years later he built the two bay garage with a second story. Then in the late 60s he built the middle section and eventually the barn down back. We all pitched in and helped digging foundations, hammering and whatever else needed to be done. The home still remains in the Bishop family.
