That is my family farm, I grow up there

Klein Farm. Now Pioneer Park.

Oh, this makes me so happy to see this! This is my dad’s home from his youth. My dad is Tim Klein; Paula (commented above) is my aunt. I was staying at my other grandma’s, grandma Marjory Shultz‘s house the night the tornado came through and wiped out the remaining structures...that was 1997, I think? We (my dad and our family) had been working on disassembling the timber frame barn in the picture, and I decided to stay overnight at grandmas before going to work at Lake Crest Dairy the next day. The tornado came through, all the work we had done to disassemble the timber frame barn was scattered across the countryside, and the rest of the tornado damage was even more substantial. There were giant oak trees and other timber all over. That tornado was just a very surreal experience.

We were just at Pioneer Park this summer, and I was telling my 4 kids about the teeter totter and swing in the back yard, and how grandpa used to give us a goose wacker stick so we could go down to the pond in the pasture. The stick was to defend ourselves against the geese. 😜 I also remember the sidewalk on the house that went from the back door in a loop to the front door… We would run circles on that sidewalk. Very warm memories of Grandma Annie and Grandpa Frances Klein‘s house, especially playing outside on the beautiful acreage. (Laura)

Do do you have any aerial photographs of Hillside Hurst? It was a farm belonging to Robert & Marjory Shultz...a white farmhouse and traditional red barn with Hillside Hurst painted on the side of it, located on Fenning Avenue, down the hill from where the Monte Club was locates...

Hi Laura, thanks for getting in touch with us! The best way to find out would be to enter the address on our homepage at https://vintageaerial.com

Our photo locations are approximations based on the locations of the rolls of film which have 36 images each. In other words, we have records that show where 36 images were photographed, but each image does not have an address associated with it unless a visitor came to our website and entered it. We're usually able to narrow down your search to several rolls of film, but it's up to you to identify the photo you're looking for!

Hi Laura, I believe I found some pictures of the Hillside Hurst farm.

Here is the link for the 1984 photo: https://vintageaerial.com/photos/minn...

Here is the link for the 1988 photo: https://vintageaerial.com/photos/minn...

I expect that I’ll find 3 more pictures of this farm in the future. (1966, 1970, and 1980) I’ll leave another comment with the links when I find them.

I found two more photos of the Hillside Hurst Farm.

Any idea on what year the house was built and what the original address was before it was torn down for development? (Hillside Hurst Farm)

Mr. Schoenleben, 8744 Fenning Avenue Monticello if my memory is correct. Not quite sure on the house.age but was always told the original part was about 100 years old when I was a kid in the 80's/90's.

I think the age of the older part of the house sounds correct...you got the address! It was my mom’s home growing up. SO many wonderful childhood memories there! My grandpa died when I was about 5, but my grandma lived there until the day before her 89th birthday in 2001 when she died. She was a special lady...a big influence on my life, and kind to the core! ❤️

Andrew and Laura, thanks for the information on the address and approximate age of the house.
