The Bee Hive Store, Rt 250, Olena. Also a Marathon station and the sign reads "Dining Room". Operated by Earnest Palmer in 1969, who owned it for at least another 20 years. It was demolished in the early 1990s. Today it is the empty lot just south of the Shell station.
Wondering who owned this before Palmers?
The 1960 rural directory lists Jas. Feuerstein as the store operator.
Thanks for the update. Jas Feurestien was my uncle. I remember going there many times as a little girl. We were in that area this weekend and I know it says it was torn down but Iβm wondering if a Sunoco station that is in the area still uses part of the building as itβs base.
The service station does not use any of the store from I can see on the high altitude aerials. The store is there in the 1983 aerial but it is gone in the 1997 aerial and the service station appears just to the north. The circular drive around the store is still there today. If you sign up as a member Google Maps satellite view will be visible in the corner of each photo's page and the red pin marks the location. Or you can just go to Google Maps.
There was a second Bee Hive on Rt 20 but I don't think it had the same operators. Just search the Huron County home page for "hive" and you can see photos of it also.
