South side of Oberlin-Elyria Rd (old Rt 20) east of Hale Rd, Oberlin. The Rural Furniture Mart was largest retail store on Rt 20 in the area. It opened in April 1954 and was a subsidiary of the D & S Appliance Store owned by Roy and Chuck Dewey and Hugh Sweet, who's last name initials provided the D&S. The first store was further east by the old Carlisle drive in. The Deweys owned 5 houses in this stretch of Rt 20. In 1983 it became the East Oberlin Flea Market. Today it is deserted.
The house down the driveway alongside the store is still there. The large barn in the center of the photo is long gone, present day Rt 20 runs right through there.
The house far away in the upper right corner is across Rt 20 on Hastings Rd, and still has the awnings today. The building with the circular drive to the left is a residential garage, still there, as are the other houses to the right.
See photo 54-DLO-32 for the other D&S Appliance Store and Mr. Dewey's house. See photo 63-MLO-16 for this location in 1969.
