Former Florin Farms orchard near Kraybills School. My Grandfather lived and worked there in the late fifties and early sixties. We used to go swimming in the pond.
Hi Doug, thank you for sharing your memories of the former Florin Farms orchard! It sounds like you have some great stories to tell. It's always interesting to hear about rural life in that time period. Also, have you visited the area since the photo was taken in 1963? -Alexis
I was back a couple of years ago .A lot of the buildings are gone and the orchards are gone. My Grandfather worked in the orchard picking apples and in the winter he pruned the trees. He would carry his lunch in the winter and stop and eat out in the orchard in the cold.I remember down along the creek was a little shed with a generator in it that was water powered but they did not use it anymore that was in the middle sixties.
The pond had a very neat high diving board and a big swing that you could swing off of into the pond. There was also a big floating raft made out of four 55 gallon steel drums. Spent a lot of Sunday afternoons there.
The building to the left of the house was ware migrant workers lived in the picking season.
