McConnell farm on Rt 58
One of the oldest houses in Lorain County. Originally owned by Louis Shaw this property was purchased by Frank and Lou Emma Green Whitney in 1892. She described the house as old at that time and that it had been a post office at one time. The post mistress was Mrs Kingberry. Mrs Whitney's son in law, J.A. McConnell was the first McConnell to live here, followed by the Howard McConnells. The wing on the main house was added around 1905.
In the mid 1950s the 160 acre farm was both crops and dairy farming with about 60 Ayrshire cattle. Today the farm has many more barns and silos. It is on the west side of Rt 58 just south of Hallauer Rd.
