The house in the lower left corner became my parents home with 9 children. We moved in there in 1972. I own this property today but we built a new house after my parents died in 2018 and 2020. The farm across the street was owned by Everett McComas in 1972 until about 1980 when he passed away and it is now owned by Lloyd Phipps.

I grew up in York Center. My parents along with 6 children out of 10 moved there in 1964. I attended York Elementary. There were 2 stores operating at that time with gas pumps. Two churches. Good times growing up there. Good neighbors and memories.

Hello Chris,
Can you recall any specific events or changes around town from that time period? And what was the most surprising change you noticed over the years? Knowing more about the York Center of your memories would be great.

I was about 3 or 4 years old when my parents moved there in 1964. The little village of York Center was truly a great place to grow up. Neighborhood children were fun to be with. We had a grocery store called Fields grocery. And across the street on the corner of 739 and 47 was Toby's gas station which was operated by a mother and daughter for many many years. In the late '60s early 70s on the other corner was a large white House that was home of Hyatt Orahood which later became a grocery store owned by Vern Hendrickson. The town had to churches, there was a elementary school which later closed. The gymnasium was used as a roller rink for several years. That is all gone now. There is a operating stone quarry on the North End of York Center which is still in operation today. I fished in the creek with my friends and occasionally we would sneak into the Quarry to fish even though we weren't supposed to. I have been away for several years now so I don't think there's much left there in York Center.
