Mystery Monday (6/27)

Posted on 06/27/2011 by Sam Melden in Mystery Monday

Another week, another mystery – now with the ability to zoom! (Zoom. It) Read the guidelines below, then comment and be sure to include a link to a corresponding map. Then, this Friday we will reveal this photos location in the comment section of this post!

Here are the guidelines,

  • If you can correctly identify the photo with a link to Google Maps showing where it is, or should be*, you win! Leave a comment here on the blog or on our Facebook Page.
  • Every Friday we will reveal the photo and congratulate the winner! (The first to post the correct answer & link)

(*It is estimated that 40% of photos document places that are no longer standing. So, if you can tell us where the subject of the photo used to be, that will work too.)

Enjoy!

The white sands make me think New Mexico....Housing, Military maneuvers...testing grounds ops.
The trees Remind me of Orange, Walnut, Pecan field....the housing....farm workers??? California

On Santa Fe Avenue (County Rd 37) in northern Merced County, California; a few miles northwest of the town of Ballico. The camp is no longer there, but the main part of the processing building (in the back corner) is still there, and there are traces of the curved driveway in front of that building and then along the back side (from this view) of the camp.

For a brief discussion of how I figured this one out (I've never lived in that part of the country), see http://awcolley.com/Main/VintageAerial

Love the Zoom.It

Thanks Mark! Wouldn't have known about it without you. In fact.... we really started using it for next week's post. A little twist for the 4th!
